Our Philosophy

At Serenity Light Recovery, we understand that the hardest decision an individual suffering from addiction has to make is to get help, followed by the decisions to show up and successfully complete treatment. Our treatment philosophy is to meet our clients exactly where they are in their addiction and to guide them down the path of recovery through both clinical and holistic treatments. We provide exceptional care in a compassionate, peaceful, and supportive environment, free from the hospital or institutional atmosphere.

Every team member of Serenity Light Recovery believes in our treatment philosophy and strives to deliver our mission and vision. They have the passion to help others and the drive to make a difference. We believe that recovery is possible and it is never too late to change. Our team works tirelessly to develop new and exciting ways to reach our clients at a new level.

Working as a cohesive team, we provide holistic and evidence-based treatment to enhance mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. With over 150 years of combined sobriety, we absolutely understand the struggles our clients are facing and the internal prison that holds them captive. We strive to break the chains of addiction and give them a newfound freedom.

SLR was founded by Heather Ogburn Stokes and her father, Dr. H.M. Ogburn, our executive medical director. After Heather overcame her own battle with addiction, her and her father made it their mission to carry this message of healing to those still suffering. Being a family-
owned business allows us to practice a shared commitment of the mission and vision. Our care and innovation is born from a desire to create an authentically individualized program experience for each and every client as well as their families.

ENHANCING SPIRITUALITY

HOW do we recover? We recover with Honesty, Open-mindedness, and Willingness. Our treatment philosophy includes the understanding that a power greater than ourselves will restore us to sanity. We encourage spiritual growth and understanding in our optional faith based recovery programs. The possibilities are endless and there is hope for a better future. Our clients are able to attend a weekly group called “Enhancing Spirituality”.

This is a time for them to find or at least seek a power greater than themselves. Finding their faith in a higher power (of their own understanding) is one of the key components of recovery. Our clients also have Guided Meditation and Yoga groups twice a week to open their minds and body and practice spirituality.
Serenity Light Recovery

YOU HAVE A VOICE

Our treatment philosophy believes that not one program fits all. We offer groups and education on multiple paths of recovery. It is important to find the program that best fits you and your needs. We are 12 step based offering weekly Big Book Studies, and nightly meetings for AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and NA (Narcotics Anonymous). We also offer Faith-based studies to accompany the 12 steps with Biblical Scriptures and provide education on Celebrate Recovery and Smart Recovery programs.

TO OUR CLIENTS…
WE BELIEVE IN YOU

We believe in you. We believe that you can and will recover. We believe that there is hope.  We believe you are worth it. We believe you can change and it’s not too late. We believe there is true freedom from addiction. We believe recovery is possible and life will become beautiful again. We believe you were given a second chance in life. We believe it is up to you to make a difference. We believe that we at Serenity Light Recovery can help you.

LET THE LIGHT IN

We light the path to recovery

A Letter From Our Founder & CEO

Heather Ogburn Stokes

It all started with a dream and a mission to make a difference. I have always had a passion to help others, but I was never sure of my purpose until Serenity Light Recovery came to life. Being a person in long-term recovery, I understand the difficulties and struggles of a life riddled with addiction. I, too, came to the crossroads in 2011 and asked myself, “How did I get here?” A wise man—my guardian angel/arresting officer—told me, “This isn’t you. I see so much potential. You are meant for great things, but it’s up to you to change.”

I made the decision to get help and to turn my life around. I was given a second chance in life, so I strive to give back and help others. I want them to know that it’s never too late to change and that recovery is possible. Life in recovery can be hard, but it is so beautiful, and I thank God every day for His saving grace.

In 2014, I began to research and find new ways to reach individuals who are struggling with addiction. I prayed for God’s guidance, and He led me here to the old Whistler Bed and Breakfast. I remember the very first day I laid my eyes on this beautiful property, and the visions for it came flooding in. When I first stepped foot through the front door, I could feel the history and love that surrounded us, and I knew in my heart that this was it! This was the perfect place to get renewed and refreshed, to recover from a hopeless state of mind, body, and spirit. When I asked my father, Dr. H Michael Ogburn, to join me on this mission, he did not hesitate! He had personally seen what addiction did to me and our family and has witnessed the healing and joy recovery can bring! We’ve developed an amazing team of compassionate professionals to make this dream come to life. We work tirelessly to create fresh ideas, programs, and services for our clients to have the ultimate experience at Serenity Light Recovery. Our mission is to be the beacon of hope and light for our clients, enabling them to achieve sustainable long-term recovery and providing them with the tools they need to create their own paths to success by extending life-fulfilling resources to achieve true freedom.

It is our hope that Serenity Light Recovery will make a difference in so many lives. It’s about taking that leap of faith, building trust, being inspired to live again, and making that decision to change.
